Dear Readers of Seoul Magazine,
Greetings! I am Ričardas Šlepavičius, the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Korea. It is a profound honour and a great privilege to address everyone here.
The relationship between Lithuania and Korea has reached its growing point, where we stand together, looking into the eyes of the diverse but unified world in which we live. Our two countries, far in geographical distance, at heart share a connection that is profound in mutuality, respect, cooperation, and understanding of the meaning of independence.
Lithuania, a country rich in history and culture, celebrates its Restoration of the State Day on the February 16th. This day, which signifies the reinstating of our state in 1918, turned out to be so crucial for the formation of our national identity and our fate. Correspondingly, Korea commemorates its Independence Movement Day on March 1st, a day that resonates with the spirit of freedom and self-determination. These momentous events in our own countries are not just mere dates in history, but the spirit of our continued struggle for independence and the values we find precious. This special union brought Lithuania and Korea closer due to the similarities in the histories of both countries. Independence struggle did everything but reinforced in us the values of resilience, courage, and steadfast commitment in the pursuit of freedom. That is not new, neither are many other things that cement our countries' understanding and cooperation across various spheres: be it the economy, technology, education, or culture.
As we celebrate these important days in the national calendars, let us also celebrate the depth and strength of relations between Lithuania and Korea. Let the celebration of this day be the realization of everything we plan and create: strategic partnership based not on documents, but on something much more important—values and aspirations. We are united by the commitment to democracy, human rights, and the way to peace and prosperity for our nations.
I am sure that the bridge built between Lithuania and Korea will only be strengthened through this tradition, originating from historical heritage and mutual goals. As the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Korea, I am determined to pursue this relationship and be open to discovering and finding new ways for cooperation and mutual understanding.
Thank you for your warm welcome and support. Here's to the bright future of Lithuania and Korea, built together as partners and friends on the world stage.
With warm regards,
Ričardas Šlepavičius, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Korea
