The diplomatic relationship between the Republic of Kenya and the Republic of Korea is fast approaching its 60th year. The two countries have enjoyed a cordial relationship that is anchored on democratic values and shared aspirations for economic stability and prosperity, and this past year, they layered on similarities with one more thing: The ushering in of new administrations that are keen to stretch beyond the diplomatic and economic boundaries previously known. The year closed out with a November 2022 official visit by Kenya’s 5th Head of State, H.E. President William Samoei Ruto a mere two months after his inauguration following the invitation of President Yoon Suk-yeol.  The occasion which made history as the countries’ first Presidential meeting to take place in Seoul, is viewed as a symbol of a recalibrating bilateral relationship.

The Mission has welcomed 2023 with a sense of renewed energy and optimism about the year ahead. It is our expectation that above the cordial ties we have historically enjoyed, the bilateral relationship between our countries will henceforth be characterized by collaborations that promote prosperity and economic development in tangible ways. With an eye on all sectors including Tourism, over the course of 2023, the Embassy will focus largely on infrastructure, agriculture, green energy transition and industrialization, which by offering opportunities of benefit to Korea, will - - when implemented - - catalyze Kenya’s economic growth.

The Kenya Embassy in Seoul applauds the Yoon administration for its progressive approach to diplomacy and, on behalf of the President and people of the Republic of Kenya, wishes all Koreans a peaceful, prosperous and healthy 2023.  In the spirit of solidarity, the Mission further extends good wishes to President Yoon Suk-yeol and his administration as it seeks to transform into a Global Pivotal State that as an ally, is consultative, engaging and responsive.
