This year’s Throne Day marks the 22nd anniversary of the accession of His Majesty Mohammed VI, May God Assist Him, to the throne of the Kingdom of Morocco. This celebration is a special and strong occasion for the Moroccan people, in all their diversity, as it symbolizes the values of love, loyalty, willingness to sacrifice, and faithfulness. Moreover, it reinforces the strong ties linking the King to his people, based on a firm pledge of allegiance and the ensuing mutual obligations.
Morocco has deep roots in history, with a profound memory and civilizational dimension, and the Monarchy is one of the oldest in the world. Indeed, the successive Kings of the Moroccan state were the authors of bright moments, which proudly made their mark on history.
Morocco’s contemporary history, in turn, demonstrates one of the strongest moments of presence, performance and unity between the people and the throne. We recall with great pride the sacrifices of His Majesty the late Mohammed V for liberation and independence.
In the same perspective, the late King Hassan II pursued the path to build a modern state, open on its regional and international environment and defending just and legitimate international causes.
Today, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God Assist Him, is continuing to secure the path of reform, democratization, and modernization. This path enhances the state of institutions and seeks to establish a cohesive and united society around the values of openness, moderation, tolerance, and dialogue.
During His Majesty's reign, the Kingdom of Morocco has witnessed a qualitative leap in various political, economic, environmental, cultural, social, and other fields, taking advantage of the prevailing beneficial conditions.

Dynamic Economy

<<I also launched an ambitious plan to boost the economy by providing support to the small and medium-sized enterprises affected by the crisis, and to preserve jobs as well as the purchasing power of households through direct material assistance.>>
As part of its innovative dynamic, Morocco has adopted a series of constructive structural reforms, with a special focus on economy.
Therefore, this dynamism has laid foundations for economic partnerships between public and private sectors, working toward significant acceleration of the economic and development process. These foundations, combined with the rehabilitation and the establishment of modern infrastructures, lead to attracting more foreign investments involving capital flows.
In this regard, the Mohammed VI Fund for Investment is playing a central role in Morocco’s economic recovery. Designated as a pivotal agent tool for the national economic relaunch amid the pandemic, the fund was given all the required legal and managerial structures to facilitate its implementation within Morocco's various sectors.
This fund plans to help the creation of small businesses by setting low-rate loans to encourage projects by young people, especially those rural areas with extremely limited access to loans and other resources.

Social Protection Generalization Project

In the past years, in a ‘real revolution,’ Morocco has spread its social security net. The recent project will provide new health care benefits for Moroccan artisanal workers such as farmers, craft workers, and other independent private employees, which will also be extended to those covered only by the Single Professional Contribution System.
The new framework law will be divided into four categories : increased access to health insurance, expansion of federal-funding recipients, updating the Moroccan pension system, and providing new unemployment protections.
In the timeline set by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in 2020, the Country seeks to achieve universal health care by 2022 and no later than 2025, aiming at an increase in pension payouts to employees and new unemployment protections.
The implementation of this large-scale societal project constitutes a starting point for the achievement of His Majesty the King's aspirations in favor of all the components of Moroccan society, in terms of responding to the challenge of the generalization of social protection.
This project represents, moreover, a lever for the integration of the informal sector into the national economic fabric, so as to guarantee the protection of the working class and its rights, as well as a decisive turning point on the path towards the achievement of the balanced development.

Morocco’s New Development Model 2021-2035

<<As the custodian of the nation’s interests and of those of the citizens, I shall make sure to follow up the actual implementation of the development model through the necessary measures and mechanisms.>>
With the Royal Initiative “social security protection plan” the Kingdom of Morocco has launched a new development model as a vision to serve as the basis for the country’s future programs, looking forward as far as 2035.
The Moroccan new development model is designed by Moroccans, with Moroccans, and for Moroccans. It results from a broad interaction with diverse sectors of the population in their dwellings, particularly in the remotest areas of the Country.
This model embodies a renewed way of conceiving development. It is a more participatory way which associates all the actors and shows that the future of the country is possible with the citizens and the actors of the development and that it can lead to constructive proposals adapted to the realities on the ground.
Thus, in accordance with its entrusted mission, the Committee responsible for this model has explored the new challenges and changes brought by the Covid-19 pandemic in a multitude of strategic areas.

Morocco’s Response Measures for Covid-19

<<We have every right, today, to celebrate Morocco’s achievements in the "battle for vaccines" - which is far from being an easy one - as well as the successful roll-out of the national vaccination campaign and the citizens’ massive engagement in it.>>
The new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic poses serious threats to economic activities and public health around the world. At the start of this pandemic in Morocco, in March 2020, the relevant authorities applied several measures, such as imposing a total and strict containment lasting 4 months, extending the national state of emergency, imposing a national night-time curfew, and creating a special fund to help manage the pandemic. Morocco is seen as an impressive model for the international community.
Also, as a part of the national COVID-19 response, His Majesty the King instructed the government to set up the Special Fund, a USD 15 Million plan dedicated to the management of the socio-economic fallout of the pandemic.
The fund is reserved for covering the expenses of projects aimed at upgrading the medical system, medical infrastructure, as well as the acquisition of additional medical means for the urgent treatment of COVID patients.
At present, Morocco is considered among the world pioneers in vaccinating its population against Covid-19. With a final objective to vaccinate 25 million Moroccans and residents, our country has vaccinated more than 11 million of its 36 million population, with around 10 million having already received the required two injections.

Manufacturing Vaccines Project

<<Since I believe medical autonomy to be a key element in the accomplishment of the country’s strategic security, I have launched a pilot project for the manufacturing, in Morocco, of vaccines, medicines and the necessary medical materials.>>
In fact, the Kingdom of Morocco is eager to start producing its own vaccines. On July 5th, 2021, His Majesty King Mohammed VI presided over a ceremony for signing agreements on the project of the fill-finish and manufacturing of anti-Covid-19 serums and other vaccines in Morocco.
This project will involve an investment of around 500 million USD and aims to provide the Kingdom with complete and integrated industrial and biotechnological capacities. The project’s short-term objective starts with a production capacity of 5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine per month, before gradually increasing this capacity in the medium term.
In this way, Morocco will become self-sufficient and a leading biotechnology platform on both the continent and in the world. Therefore, the country will reinforce its health sovereignty in the face of external dependencies and political contingencies.

Covid-19 Crisis : Royal’s Actions towards African Countries

As His Majesty the King underlined in previous occasions, Africa, now more than ever, must be self-reliant and confident in its ability to overcome the Covid-19 crisis. Thus far, the continent has shown resilience, due to an appropriate level of preparedness to face this pandemic. The pandemic has taught us that active solidarity and enhanced cooperation among us Africans is essential.
A staunch defender of the ‘‘African response to African challenges’’ spirit, the Kingdom of Morocco, under the instructions of His Majesty Mohammed VI, proceeded to send medical supplies to many friendly and brotherly African countries and provide medical assistance to African Peers.
It is worth mentioning that all the protective products and equipment making up the medical aid sent to African countries have been produced in Morocco by national companies, and they comply with the international standards, notably those of the World Health Organization.

Strong Bilateral relations

The Republic of Korea and the Kingdom of Morocco established diplomatic ties in July of 1962 and have enjoyed a long and stable relationship ever since. These mutually beneficial bilateral relations and cooperation have accelerated over the past decade in economic, political, and cultural aspects.
Over the years, the traditional friendship between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Korea has expanded and flourished into thriving, mutually beneficial bilateral relations.
Even in this period marked by the covid-19 pandemic, our two countries have reaffirmed and reinforced their healthy collaboration, through intensive exchanges that have benefited to the citizens of both nations.
Morocco and Korea engage in a constructive dialogue on issues of mutual interest, working closely to build political and economic bridges between our two countries. Despite, being situated on different continents, we share similar histories and values. We are friends and good partners; we respect, help, and support each other.
As an Ambassador, I am working tirelessly to improve the bilateral relations between our two nations and for enhancing our partnership to a higher level to the benefit of both countries and peoples.
I would like to conclude by expressing my hope to see effective solutions for both immediate and near future eradication of the new coronavirus and any other kind of pandemic, achieved by world cooperation.
Wishing long life to a fruitful and friendly relationship between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Korea.
