40% in Yonsei & Korea University, 30% in Seoul National University

From 2020 university admissions, there will be 30% or higher increase of regular admissions to major universities in Seoul.

Korean Council for University Education announced the '2022 University Admission Plan' targeted at 198 four-year universities nationwide.

For the examinees and parents, the proportion of regular and irregular admissions to major universities is their core concern.

“By 2023, we will increase the proportion of regular admissions to major universities in Seoul to 40% and a possible fast-track achievement as early as 2022," the Ministry of Education announced in 2019, adding that it would strengthen the fairness of university admissions.

The proportion of regular admissions to major universities in Seoul is near 40%. However, it goes down to 24.3% if the target range expands to the nationwide four-Year University.

This is because the proportion of regular admissions in local universities is relatively low. On average, the percentage of regular admissions in metropolitan universities is 32.3% and 15.7% in local universities.

According to the University Admissions Committee and Korean Council for University Education, the ratio of regular and irregular admissions of all 198 four-year universities nationwide in the year 2022 is 75.7% to 24.3%.

Kyunghee University, Korea University, Sogang University, Yonsei University, Hankuk University, Hanyang University, etc. have more than 40% of the regular admissions, where Sungkyunkwan University, Sejong University, Ewha Womans University, and Chung-Ang University are 30%.

The Korean Council for University Education is publishing a brochure, “The 2022 University Admissions’, which is distributed to high schools, municipal offices of education, and related organizations. From July, you can also check the information on the website of the university's information portal (www.adiga.kr).
