With the 52nd ISSF World Championship Changwon 2018 slated 

from Aug. 31st to Sep. 15th as a momentum, Changwon City 

proclaimed its 2018 Changwon Visit Year with a view to attracting 

tourists over 15 millions from home & abroad this year.

In that regard, Changwon City invited The Seoul Diplomatic Corps 

to Changwon with one night & two day programs on Jan. 16-17 who consisted of Ambs., deputy head missions and many senior 

diplomats over 45 persons from the Seoul Diplomatic Corps.

Excellencies who attended Changwon Famtour with their Madames, 

were Sierra Leone Amb. Omrie Michael Golley with his spouse, 

Ethiopia Amb. Shiferaw Jarso Tedecha with his spouse, Nepal Amb. 

Arjun Jung Bahadur Singh with his spouse, Ukraine Amb. Olexander 

Horin with his spouse, Zambia Amb. Wylbur Chisiya Simusa, Egypt 

Amb. Hazem Fahmy and last but not least Kyrgyz Amb. Sultan Kylychbek.

While Sierra Leone Amb. Omrie Michael Golley assumed the 

Dean role of Visiting Diplomatic Community, Visting Diplomatic 

Community was greeted by 2nd Vice Mayor Yoo Won-sup & 

Changwon City’s dedicated officials at the Changwon International Hotel to 

welcome them at the luncheon, upon arriving Changwon at noon, 

on last Jan.16th (Tuesday).

On behalf of honorable Mayor Ahn Sang-soo who was very busy in arranging the Official Ceremony in 

the afternoon, 2nd Vice Mayor Yoo welcomed ambassadors & 

many senior diplomats at the luncheon, saying that Changwon is 

a leading city which has been ushering Republic of Korea. Actually, 

Changwon is a symbol of Korea industrialization which has 

ushered Korean economy as a mecca of mechanics industry at 

home. In addition, Changwon is a sacred place of democratization 

as well as a leading city of naval forces which has been kept 

peace on the peninsular, Yoo added.

About the background Changwon invited Diplomatic Corps. to 

Changwon, Vice Mayor Yoo said that Changwon City is expecting 

for the Seoul Diplomatic Corps. to play their crucial role in 

promoting Changwon City globally, adding all Changwon City 

officials & staffs are devoting all their power to attract 15 million 

tourists from home & abroad from the beginning of this year.

Diplomatic Community replied that we heard that Changwon is 

the city of history and tradition as well as while being widely 

acknowledged as the leading part for the development of the 

Republic of Korea and as an industrial city on the peninsular. In 

that regard, we ambassadors & diplomats send our sincere 

encouragements for the efforts of Changwon City which wishes 

to show differentiated theme tourism of tourism city only

After the luncheon, Ambassadors & senior diplomats attended 

the official opening ceremony for the success of the 2018 

Changwon Visit Year 2018 and citizens harmony which was 

held at the Sungsan Arthall from 14:30 pm.

While acting governor Han Kyung-ho from South Kyungsang 

Province & many regional 

dignitaries were attending, Changwon City mayor Ahn Sang-soo said that Changwon has been devoting its efforts with a 

form of two tracks, that is, cutting-edge industry and tourism industry to elevate city competitiveness.

Touching upon that tourism is a driving force of city growth, 

Ahn said that Changwon will present diverse tourism programs 

for tourists from home & abroad, along with sports such as 

the 52nd ISSF World Championship Changwon 2018, history & 

culture contents only Changwon has to offer.

Naming Jinhae Gunhang Festival, Masan Gagopa Chrysanthemum 

Festival and last but not least K-Pop World Festival in Changwon 

as global Changwon’s representative festivals, Mayor Ahn 

emphasized that Changwon 

is reborning as a new tourism city in the Republic of Korea.

For one example, the 52nd ISSF World Championship Changwon 

2018 will attract a total of 4,500 athletes from 120 countries 

globallty from Aug. 31st to Sep. 15th this year while being named 

as one of the world 5 big sports events alongwith WorldCup, Olympics etc.

After the Official Opening Ceremony, visiting ambassadors & 

senior diplomats dropped by Yongji Lake owing to rain although 

they actually planned to visit Jeodo Skywork to see seasides.

On the next day(Jan. 17th, Wendesday), visit programs were 

filled industrial tours 

such as LG Electronics Changwon Factory visit, Doosan Heavy 

Industries Changwon Factory visit, and Moohak World Liquor Museum visit etc.
