Russia Amb. Alexander Timonin reconfirmed once again that Korea-Russia Summit held as part of the 2nd Eastern Economic Forum in 

Vladivostok, Russia Federation last Sep., was the most important event 

between the two countries this year and Moscow regards South Korea 

as a major partner in the Asia Pacific region.

As one example for such cooperation, Timonin named the unanimous 

adoption by all United Nations Security Council member states, including 

China and Russia, of UN Security Council resolution 2321 (2016) in 

to North Korea’s fifth nuclear test.

Along with resolution 2270 (2016), the new resolution is another milestone 

measure in that it imposes the toughest and the most comprehensive non-military sanctions in the history of the UN against North Korea which has 

repeatedly violated the UN Charter and relevant Security Council resolutions, 

said MOFAT.

Given the gravity and urgency of nuclear and missile threats from North Korea, 

the resolution reaffirms the resolve of the Security Council, on behalf of the entire 

international community, that it will not tolerate North Koreas nuclear and 

missile development under any circumstances, while imposing 

tough punitive measures on North Korea and warning that further robust 

measures will be put in place.

Russia envoy Alexander Timonin added that this year's groundwork was 

prepared for next year to expect more many results between the two countries.

Prof. Kim Hyuntaek from HUFS (Hankook University of Foreign Studies) 

predicted that with the preparation of the 2018 Pyungchang Winter 

Olympic Games, more frequent events between Korea and Russia will 

take place next year in addition to the World Youth Festival in Sochi, Russia on 

Oct. next year.

end gathering, held at the Russia Embassy on Dec. 1st evening.
