The Sultanate Of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Information, will take part as a guest of honour in Seoul International Book Fair (SIBF), to be held from June 18 to 22 at the Korean Convention and Exhibition Centre (COEX) in Seoul.
Oman’s pavilion at the book fair will incorporate several sections that include cultural, literary, and economic and tourism publications.
The pavilion will also include a section for booklets distribution, as well as a section for displaying art tableaus, heritage and photos dealing with civilisation that depict the nature of the Oman. It will also incorporate a section for showcasing various Omani costumes. The Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra will play various musical pieces.
The organizing committee for the fair at a press conference pointed out that the fair is considered among the largest activities concerned with books in Korea. Over 369 companies and publication houses from 23 countries will take part in the fair.

On Oman participation at the fair, HE Mohammed Al Harthy, Oman Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, said that selecting Oman as a guest of honour at the fair comes on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of establishing the Omani-Korean diplomatic relations and in appreciation of the Korean government for the leading role being carried out by Oman in all international arena, as well as valuing the strong relations binding the two friendly countries.
Al Harthy pointed out that the participation aims at contributing in disseminating the Omani cultural activity and highlighting the developmental, economic, social and urban achievements made during the Blessed Renaissance under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, in addition to highlighting the Sultanate’s prosperous heritage.
He added that the Sultanate’s participation in the fair comes to extend bridges of communication and enhancing the good relations binding the Sultanate and the Republic of Korea, as well as stemming from the belief of the Ministry of Information in the prestigious position enjoyed by Seoul International Book Fair in terms of the number of participant publication houses or visitors or associating cultural activities. The Oman pavilion is designed in the form of an Omani castle that depicts the heritage value of the Sultanate of Oman. In addition, Oman, the country of honor for this year’s fair, will host various side events that visitors can take part in such as showcasing traditional Omani clothes and jewelry, henna drawings and much more.
Ambassador said: we invite all interested people and students to visit the Book fair and stop at Oman pavilion , which is characterized by a unique architectural design, which embodies one of the famous castles of Oman, and invite everyone to enjoy the features Omani hospitality, culture and heritage of Oman and musical performance of Oman Royal Orchestra
On this occasion, a handbook titled , "Features of Oman" in Arabic, English and Korean is prepared by the Ministry of Information, in addition "the story of Sinbad: journey from Oman to China" is translated in English and Korea in cooperation and coordination between the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman and the Korea Arab Society
Ambassador Mohammed Al Harthy said this participation comes in the framework of a series of events launched by the Embassy this year on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the cordial relations between Oman and Korea, where the embassy launched a program at the beginning of this year's titled " welcome in to Oman" which aims to build bridges of communication and understanding, definition of culture Omani heritage and history, features of Omani Renaissance in order to enhance mutual understanding which aims to strengthen and expand the horizons of cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Korea

Among the embassy cultural activities carried out by the embassy is the monthly program “open house” where the embassy opens its doors to the public to showcase the Omani architecture design, culture, history, and heritage of Oman beside the features modern renaissance and promotion of the elements of tourism and investment opportunities. In addition the embassy also participates in most cultural and economic events held in Kore4a throughout the year.

Oman participation as Guest of Honor at Seoul International Book Fair 2014 was a good opportunity to recall us that Oman is a country having a resplendent culture among Middle East & Arab culture circle countries among others.
Under the auspieces of H.E. Dr. Abdulmunim Mansoor Al Hasani, Minister of Information, Sultanate of Oman, Embassy of Oman invited Arab Ambassadors & Korean guests including advisor Choi Seung-Hoh of Gateway Investment (former Secretary General of Korea-Arab Society)to a reception on the occasion of Oman participation as Guest of Honor at Seoul International Book Fair 2014.

Held on June 19th evening, 2014 at the Grand Intercontinental Hotel, the reception provided guests with a valuable time to enjoy Oman Royal Orchestra performance during the reception including an exhibition showing Oman's diverse cities and beautiful tourist destinations.
In conjunction with Oman's tourism resources, Minister Abdulmunim Mansoor Al Hasani said through his welcoming remarks: "Oman has excellent potential natural beauties & tourism resources which can go near to Koreans attractively". Arab envoys who graced the function, included Amb. Hocine Sahraoui of Algeria, Amb. Khalil  Al-Mosawi of Iraq, Amb. Mohammed Chraibi of Morocco, Amb. Mohamed Ali Nafti of Tunisia, and Tageldin Elhadi of Sudan etc. Pointing out that Seoul International Book Fair 2014 will be a valuable opportunity for experts of each fields to share expertises, Al Hasani expected for the Book Fair to be served as an opportunity which can introduce Oman's resplendent cultures as well.Touching upon the fact that relations between Korea and Oman don't lie in the present alone, he said that Oman expects to learn many things from Korea which is attached importance to its presence in the international arena.
