On November 11th, the Embassy of Peru and the Cervantes Institute in Seoul jointly organized the event “En busca del Alma Andina” (In Search of the Andean Soul), which included the screening of the short film “¡Ay Vida!” and a musical performance by Peruvian artist, composer, and researcher Fredy Guzmán.
Before a full audience, the short film “¡Ay Vida!” was screened, narrating the artist’s four-year journey across various regions of the Peruvian Andes, where he explored and documented traditional music, master musicians, and cultural festivities. This personal and professional project was carried out after his graduation from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA.
Following the screening, Fredy Guzmán engaged in an enriching discussion with the audience and concluded the evening with a live performance, featuring both his original compositions and popular Andean songs. Guests — including Korean, Peruvian, and international attendees — also enjoyed a selection of Peruvian snacks and pisco, Peru's flagship beverage and a symbol of the nation's rich land and enduring cultural heritage.
The event was attended by officials from the Diplomatic Corps in Seoul, directors of museums, galleries, and art foundations, as well as professionals and representatives from Korean educational institutions, who expressed their ongoing interest in promoting Peruvian culture. Such initiatives continue to strengthen cultural ties and foster mutual understanding between the peoples of Peru and Korea.
