President Lee Jae-myung and Egyptian President El-Sisi Hold First Post-Inauguration Call
President Lee Jae-myung held his first phone conversation with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on the evening of Monday, October 20.
The two leaders exchanged greetings and congratulations on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Egypt this year, and highly evaluated the development of the cooperative relationship between the two nations as "Comprehensive Cooperative Partners."
Both leaders agreed that the two countries have developed mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields—including economy, infrastructure, and defense industry—since establishing diplomatic ties in 1995. They also shared the view that there is great potential for cooperation between Korea, which possesses advanced technology, and Egypt, an economic hub connecting Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.
In particular, President El-Sisi stated that the investments by outstanding Korean companies are making a great contribution to the Egyptian economy, expressing his hope that Korean companies will continue to expand their activities within Egypt.
Furthermore, the two leaders noted the vitalization of people-to-people exchanges, based on mutual respect and affinity for each other's culture, citing the high popularity of K-Culture recently gaining traction in Egypt.
Both leaders agreed on the wish for cooperation in the culture, education, and people-to-people exchange sectors to further develop on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
The two Presidents closely exchanged views on the peace and security of the Korean Peninsula and the situation in the Middle East. President Lee Jae-myung also praised Egypt’s efforts regarding the recent Gaza ceasefire negotiations.
The two leaders agreed to continue in-depth communication on matters of mutual interest amidst the rapidly changing global landscape.
Evaluating the exchanges and communication, such as the dispatch of the Korean President's special envoy earlier in October, both leaders decided to meet in person in the near future to discuss ways to further develop bilateral relations in depth, thus maintaining this positive momentum.
