-Germany Unity greets 30 years anniversary with its diplomatic reception!

Without exception this year as well, Germany Amb. Stephan AUER & Guest Honor gave their well-wishing remarks for Korean peoples on the occasion of the 30 years of Germany Unity held at the downtown hotel Seoul on last Friday (Oct. 11th evening) through its diplomatic reception that they sincerely hope for Korean peoples to greet its unification on the peninsula with peace.

But in the case of this year, the mood of their well-wishing remarks was a little different in the wakes of the denuclearization talks’ stalement on the peninsula for Korean peoples whereas on the contrary Germany greets its new 30 years to pave the way for the united Germany’s future.

Nevertheless, it is a firm fact that Germany Unity gives us with unlimited lessons for out unification process so that we can benchmark it. In that regard, it seems to be still significant to hear carefully Germany envoy Auer’s remarks, ‘the exchange of West-East Germany served as a cornerstone for its Unification 30 years ago, adding 3 October is a date that invites us to look back at the historical achievements of statesmen like Willy Brandt, Helmut Kohl and Hans-Dietrich Genscher.

In conjunction with it, it must be also noted that the majority of people in the east of the country still feel that they are "second class citizens", as Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel pointed out in a ceremony to mark the Day of German Unity held in Kiel, Germany.

Merkel further pointed out that policy-makers and civil society must learn to understand that, for very many people, reunification "has not been a purely positive experience", adding German reunification is a process that we have to keep working at.

Although reunification has been finalised at government level, she said, the Germans have not yet been reunified, in the sense of forging a unified identity. "German reunification is not a status quo. It is not something that we do once and then it is over. It is an ongoing process. It is something we have to keep working at. It is a process that affects all Germans no matter what federal state they live in," said the Chancellor.

It is important to pay attention to one another, to listen to one another, to learn from our different experiences, so that "we can use our imaginations to build our common future". That is why it is appropriate to celebrate German Unity with a lively party and to rejoice in the "diversity our country has to offer", concluded Merkel.
