“Mexico Government sincerely hopes successful outcomes, strongly supporting ongoing 3rd South-North Korea Summit in Pyongyang”

Regarding ongoing 3rd South-North Korea Summit in Pyongyang, North Korea between President Moon Jae-in & his North Korea counterpart Kim Jeong-eun, North Korea leader, Mexico Amb. Fischer Figueroa said Mexico Government sincerely hopes successful outcomes, adding his Government supports consistently Korean Government’s peaceful efforts for the complete denuclarization on the peninsula.

In its 208th Independence Anniversary diplomatic reception held in a downtown hotel Seoul last Friday(Sep. 14th evening), Figueroa acknowledged Korean Government’s meritorious deeds which resulted in the South-North Korea Summits two times last spring as well as US-North Korea Summit in Singapore.

In his message regarding North Korea’s denuclearization issue which was published in the Sep. Issue of the Seoulcity magazine as well, Figueroa noted as follows: “On behalf of the Mexican Government, I welcome the positive developments on the Korean Peninsula that started on the occasion of the Olympic Games in PyeongChang in February this year, and particularly with the two meetings between President Moon Jae-in of the Republic of Korea and his North Korean counterpart Kim Jong-un, and was reinforced by the meeting between United States President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Singapur, last June 12. Those summits laid the foundation of a new path towards complete denuclearization and permanent peace in the Korean Peninsula.

Mexico calls on all the actors involved in the dialogue to maintain their constructive spirit with a view to agree on concrete steps towards complete denuclearization and a lasting peace that guarantees stability in the region.

The Mexican Government acknowledges the efforts of the international community to promote this dialogue and reiterates its commitment to continue supporting the process.”

For Korea, Mexico is the largest trade partner in the Central & South America region as well as the core investment destinations from the perspective of Korean companies as deputy minister Bahk Sang-hoon for public diplomacy, MOFAT pointed out by his congratulatory remarks on behalf of the Korean Government.

In that regard, Mexico Amb. Figueroa said Pacific Alliance’s member countries express their welcome willingness for the hope of Korea’s joining as an associate member country, pointing out Latin America's future begins with the Pacific Alliance.

Touching upon new launch of new Mexico Government under the leadership of Andrés Manuel López Obrador who will be sworn into office as new Mexico President on the upcoming Dec. 1st, this year, Figueroa conveyed Mexico President-elect has his solid belief to consolidate relations with the Republic of Korea, pledging economic stability and social justice.
