Hosted by the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation with a total of 150,000 of audience by this year

The audience filled not only the first, second, and third floors, but also the seats behind the stage at the Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium.

Domestic aid for Pohang earthquake victims and 100 underprivileged families
Overseas aid for 11 countries suffering from disasters and diseases
The world is moved by Mother’s Love, the pivot of global unity

Ambassadors and consuls are diplomats sent to other countries as the representatives of their countries, and so they are careful in carrying out their diplomatic missions, and their roles are important. Despite their busy year-end schedules, diplomats of eighteen countries, including ambassadors, consuls, deputy chiefs of mission, and first secretaries, were present at a concert hosted by a non-governmental charity organization, catching public attention.
It was the 18th New Life Concert of the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation (hereinafter the WeLoveU) on November 26 at the Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium in Seoul, closing the year 2017. The WeLoveU is a global charity organization that carries out diverse activities for the well-being of children, youth, communities, and people who are suffering from disasters, diseases, war, and poverty, with the goal to fulfill human well-being through a mother’s love. At the end of every year, the WeLoveU holds a charity concert to help our underprivileged neighbors in and out of Korea.
On this day, over 12,000 of audience were all together, including the guests from the educational world, culture and art world, sports, political, and financial world, the WeLoveU members, and beneficiaries. Korea’s leading vocalists, popular musical actor, singers, and an announcer donated their talents and became one with the audience in their heated response.
The WeLoveU delivered emergency relief funds for Pohang earthquake victims through this concert, and supported a hundred underprivileged neighbors with medical or living expenses. Also, the WeLoveU supported eleven countries such as Gabon, Mozambique, Mexico, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Mongolia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, India, and Bangladesh, with educational or public facilities, medicines, and daily necessities.
On this day, the concert served as a place for global cooperation for human well-being beyond nation, race, ethnicity, language, and culture. At the same time, it showed what is required for human harmony.

Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah of the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation comforts a domestic beneficiary with donation certificates and a soft bedding gift.

#1. Sharing that transcends nation, race, and ethnicity

For this concert, about eighty foreign guests gathered in one place including Iraqi, Spanish, and Jordanian Ambassadors to Korea, Egyptian and Bolivian Acting Ambassadors to Korea, and other diplomats and their families from Mexico, Paraguay, El Salvador, Bangladesh, Fiji, Afghanistan, Tunisia, Laos, Sweden, Congo, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, and Vietnam.
H.E. Wadee Batti Hanna Al-Batti, Iraqi Ambassador to Korea, let the audience know the difficult situation of his homeland and emphasized that the relief efforts of the WeLoveU became a great help. Today, the city of Mosul in Iraq is having the major projects—the largest reconstruction and stabilization, as its main infrastructure was destroyed while ISIS was seizing this city for three years and through the process of recapturing it. Thousands of Iraqis stream into Internally Displaced Person [IDP] camps. Ambassador Al-Batti said, “Unconditional love and encouragement is desperately needed more than ever. This love can only be found in mothers, and the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation is taking on that role wonderfully.” He was deeply moved while reading his congratulatory address and repeatedly expressed his gratitude to the WeLoveU even by changing his address on the spot.
H.E. Adel Mohammad Adaileh, Jordanian Ambassador to Korea, who attended this concert a second time, following last year, said, “It was a very heartwarming event. I was moved at the active participation of many people who want to help the global neighbors in need every year.” H.E. Gonzalo Ortiz, Spanish Ambassador to Korea, said, “Your greeting, ‘We love you,’ makes me feel that there is always someone I can rely on when I have a hard time. Your efforts and accomplishment have made this world better and let people dream a better future on the basis of a new opportunity. Everyone is given twenty-four hours a day, but you seem to be doing more.”
“I hope that my children will learn a mother’s heart and love delivered to the whole world through you,” said Diaa Hammad, Counsellor and Acting Ambassador of Egypt to Korea, who attended the concert with his family. He promised that he would share a mother’s love with many people along with the WeLoveU, thinking of his homeland. Perla B. García Cristaldo, Deputy Chief of Mission of Paraguay to Korea, said, “It is not a matter of whether it is a developing country or an advanced country, because anyone in this world may fall into a difficulty. It is impressive that the WeLoveU is carrying out comprehensive and international activities for children, families, and communities that need our help.”
As for the WeLoveU’s activities to help the world with a mother’s love, Alejandro Noriega, Mexican Consul to Korea, said with emphasis, “It is to achieve the noble goal, ‘the harmony of humankind.’ I hope Mexico and the WeLoveU may maintain a friendly relation.” Dhin Thi Tam, Commercial Counselor of the Vietnamese Embassy in Korea, said, “It’s been a long time since I felt the atmosphere filled with love for others. As time goes, more and more people need help. I believe the works of the WeLoveU will have a positive effect on the whole world. I’m even more grateful as our Vietnamese neighbors have received much help from the WeLoveU.”
“I was surprised to see so many people agree with the value of sharing,” said Marianne Bylund, First Secretary of the Swedish Embassy in Korea. She added, “I was amazed to see many nations participating in the event hosted by a non-governmental organization. There must be a number of events for each country, but they came here. It means that they appreciate this event so highly and respect this organization.” Ibrahim Khalil Ibrahim, Iraqi Counselor and Deputy Head of Mission to Korea, who had attended the WeLoveU’s another event, “Kimchi-Making with Mother’s Love” to help 700 underprivileged households in November, were more inspired by this event and highly appreciated its value, saying, “The WeLoveU has prepared the non-governmental event on the basis of humanitarianism. Today, humanitarianism is a very important subject. Our lives fundamentally start from our mothers’ love. In order to solve conflicts and disputes, mothers’ love is essential. The WeLoveU has supported  Iraq with that mind.”
The diplomats from each country said in unison that the borderless activities of the WeLoveU are changing the world peacefully. Before the event, the WeLoveU had provided medical supplies and food for Iraqi and Syrian refugees. So far, the WeLoveU has helped climate refugees, disaster victims, and underprivileged families, and contributed to the health of the people living in water-scarce areas.

#2. People from all walks of life and citizens considerate of others

At the concert, many people from all walks of life, the WeLoveU members, and their families and acquaintances, and event beneficiaries had a pleasant time with their families. “This event showed that our small efforts to help our unfortunate neighbors not only in Korea but also around the world were gathered and contributed to world peace little by little. If we continue to give love, it will be a great help to brighten the future of our children,” said Gyeong-ho Shin, President of Gwangwon Future Education Institute. Jeong-bu Kim, Professor of Graduate School of Public Policy at Hanyang University, said, “I show my respect to the WeLoveU for holding this event in difficult times.”
The audience came from many regions such as Seoul, Bundang, Incheon, and Chuncheon. They all said that they were glad to be able to a help to the global villagers with the heart of a mother. Jin-hui Pyeon (47) said, “Whenever I come to this concert, I feel that my viewpoint on the world changes. I wanted to help people suffering from earthquakes in Pohang, so now I’m glad to help them in this way.” Chaima Rhimi (21, Tunisia), who was enjoying the concert with her, sang along the WeLoveU theme song, shouting, “Very fantastic!”
Mi-hee Park (33, housewife), who came with her husband, said, “Usually when I hear about disaster news, I feel sad at that moment, but forget soon after returning to my daily life. But if it happens to my family, I will not forget every single day. It is very impressive that the WeLoveU helps the neighbors in need with the heart of the family and the heart of the mother. I’m proud to be able to give even a little bit of help to my neighbors through this concert. I’ve realized once again how important each and every step we take is.”
Seong-a Park (33, worker) from Incheon said with a smile, “Through this concert, I’ve been convinced of the importance and value of volunteer service. I hope that the WeLoveU members will continue to do volunteer services, and I too will be with them.” Also, she confidently said, “It was time to realize that the warmheartedness is alive in me, and all the audience shared this emotion and warmth with one another. If we continue volunteer services with that heart, this world will be really beautiful.”

#3 Celebrities also donate their talents

Announcer Byung-chan Kim, who was the MC at the concert, and some other celebrities also played a great role in unity through brilliant performances at the concert. Soprano Mi-hae Park, Professor at the College of Music Seoul National University, has ever performed in collaboration with the world-class vocalists such as Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, and José Carreras, and she also sang at the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan. She showed a high-class performance at the concert, and said after her performance, “The atmosphere of the concert was unique, most likely because there’re such nice people together who do many good things. From the beginning, I was very impressed by fervent cheering and applause from the audience and by your sincere efforts to perform good deeds. I hope that your good deeds will become seeds and more people will join you in helping others.” Soprano Kyung-mi Han, Professor at the Performing Arts Department Myongji University, has also collaborated with the world’s best orchestras such as the Frankfurt Orchestra in Germany and the Bonn Philharmonic Orchestra. After her performance at the concert, she said, “I was greatly moved by the message about a mother who gives love lavishly and unconditionally. All the process of preparing for the concert today made me feel solemn and think that I should do more good things at the end of the year.” She also showed her expectation for the concert, “I hope that this kind of event will become global in scale.” Then she added, “I hope all our neighbors, including Pohang earthquake victims, will be warmly comforted and healed.”
Ho-young Kim, a musical actor, gave a charming performance this year, too. He said in an interview, “No one wants disasters, but they come unexpectedly. When people encounter a disaster, they get injured physically and mentally. Someone has to help them, and the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation volunteers help them. I’m so grateful to you all.” He encouraged our unfortunate neighbors, quoting the lines of Don Quixote in the musical play: “Do not lose hope that enables you to stand up again even after a thousand trials.” Singers Seung-hun Lee and Tae-gyu Yun, who continued to show their love for neighbors by attending the New Life Concert every year, said, “Every time we meet the WeLoveU, we feel unchanging love. Keeping the same mind is the most difficult thing, but the WeLoveU always keeps the same mind. So we wait for this event every year and come back again.”
Singers Jong-hwan Kim and her daughter Lia Kim said, “We feel the infinite happiness from the bottom of our hearts every year we come to this concert. We hope that many people will always be happy to hear our songs. We also desire to continue to sing songs of hope.” Singer Yong Lee, the last performer at the concert, “I’ve performed about 8,000 times for 37 years, but today I had a truly happy stage.” Then he gave the energetic message: “Although I didn’t come together with you from the beginning, I will be with you till the end.”
Byung-chan Kim, who emceed the concert in a witty and touching manner, expressed his impression about the concert, “It is a blessing if we can help someone else. Many people in difficulties are likely to fall into despair, but at the very moment, hope can permeate them just like the early morning air. Your small help can become such fresh air. I think the words “We Love You” sound great because it’s possible only when we are together, not alone.” All the performers promised to be back next year, which raised people’s expectations for the 19th concert to be held next year even more.

Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah of the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation, diplomats, and many influential figures from various fields have gathered to help global neighbors and take a commemorative photograph.

#4. Preparing for the concert with the heart of the family

The reason the New Life Concert can move its participants so deeply is because the members of the WeLoveU prepare for the concert wholeheartedly with the thought that it is for their own family members. This year, too, they prepared for the concert systematically and carefully. Even several months before the concert, they started planning and preparing for it, and on the day of the concert they divided the roles and checked everything including the stage from early in the morning; some guided the guests, some interpreted for foreigners, some assisted beneficiaries, and others supported the performers for their smooth performances.
They have held the concert for nearly 20 years since 2000, and they have become more experienced in handling matters, regarding the concert. However, they say, “We’re always excited before the concert, but we can’t ease up because we have to ensure the smooth running of the concert.” With such sincerity, they have helped their unfortunate neighbors through the concert; they have given hope to a total of 524 underprivileged households, including 130 children with heart disease, rare intractable diseases, or other diseases, teen-headed and single-parent households, and multicultural families. They have also given substantial aid to people all around the world who are suffering from disasters, diseases, poverty, etc. by donating medical and living expenses for them, carrying out relief and recovery efforts, installing water pumps and purification facilities, and supporting children with educational facilities. Last year, over 20,000 people participated in the 17th New Life Concert at the Gocheok Sky Dome—Korea’s first indoor baseball stadium. Through last year’s concert, they helped 67 underprivileged families in Korea with medical and living expenses, and helped Myanmar, Vietnam, Ecuador, Chile, and Paraguay with educational facilities and daily necessities.
Over 150,000 people have attended the concert since it was first held. Many great singers, including Insooni, Yeol Yu, Jo-han Kim, Young-rok Jeon, Tae-gyu Yun, Seung-hun Lee, Chan-whui Soh, Yu Shin, Sa-yun Noh, Mu-song Lee, Gwang-jo Lee, Sunflower, and Ben attended the concert and performed beautiful songs. Musical actors and actresses, including So-hyun Kim, Jun-ho Son, Ho-young Kim, Cheol Park, and Ji-yu Kim, as well as movie and television actors and actresses also attended the concert and gave courage to the beneficiaries.
Besides the New Life Concert, the WeLoveU have held the New Life Family Walkathon to donate medical and living expenses, school expenses, water pumps and tanks, school facilities, and education supplies for sick children, underprivileged families, climate refugees, water-scarce regions,  and impoverished areas in Ghana, DR Congo, Cambodia, Pakistan, Vietnam, Nepal, Thailand, Tuvalu, Bolivia, Mexico, etc. Especially in Nepal where a massive earthquake caused many casualties in 2015, the WeLoveU members did relief and recovery work even with their bare hands when there was no disaster relief equipment. They built 3,000 tents for those who had lost their homes, and donated food and daily necessities, including 2,000 bags of rice, bottled water, and instant noodles.
The WeLoveU members have been working devotedly for their neighbors and communities in Korea as well, through free meal service at the site of the 2003 Daegu subway arson tragedy, restoration work and donation for Taean oil spill accident, donation of funds and goods to Yeonpyeong bombardment victims, free meal service at the site of collapsed Sampung Department Store, flood, typhoon, and heavy snow recovery works throughout the country, etc. In particular, when the Sewol Ferry sank, the members in Gwangju and Jeonnam regions provided free meals around the clock for 20 days, comforting grief-stricken people who lost their families.
The WeLoveU is now providing free meals for Pohang residents who are trembling in fear and suffering from the cold weather after the 5.4-magnitude earthquake on November 15. The WeLoveU members in Pohang, Gyeongju, Gyeongsan, and Yeongcheon are giving comfort and courage through warm meals to the victims and field workers at the Heunghae Indoor Gymnasium, which is used as a shelter for the victims from November 22. Their volunteer services will continue for a while according to the disaster recovery conditions.

Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah of the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation, who has made kimchi every year for the underprivileged neighbors, Iraqi Counselor and Deputy Head of Mission to Korea, and housewives from multicultural families are smiling to cheer our neighbors at a kimchi-sharing event.

#5. The example of the love of a mother

Their constant sharing is made possible thanks to Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah, who takes the lead in sharing the love of a mother all her life. She herself has been doing the WeLoveU’s charity work at the forefront from the beginning.
A mother takes care of her children, protecting their lives and health and guiding them to have a right sense of values. She also does her best in helping her family live a harmonious and happy life. When it comes to the life of Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah, it is the life of a mother itself. Without a stop, she has embraced all people of the world and made humanitarian efforts with sincerity.
Even in the days when everybody was suffering from the economic depression, the chairwoman shared food and delivered comfort and hope to her neighbors in more difficulty. Seeing her sacrifice herself to save lives in danger, instead of caring about herself, many people around her were motivated to do the same and help others. As people have come to join her in helping neighbors one after another, the WeLoveU’s range of help got wider to communities and to nations. Now, her charity goes beyond national boundaries and helps those who are suffering from diseases, disasters, and poverty all around the world.
The chairwoman wore a bandana and an apron like the members, and wholeheartedly made kimchi at a kimchi-making event held in November. She thanked each and every member who participated in the charity work. When kimchi-making was done, she visited some multicultural families in person. This is where we can catch a glimpse of the love of a mother the WeLoveU pursues.
“When it’s seen in the universe, the earth is like a village and seven billion people living on it are like one family. We’ll not stop loving and serving our global family with the love of a mother so that those who are suffering from disasters, diseases, and poverty may gain hope and happiness.” This is the unchanging credo of Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah.
She emphasized the value of sharing again at the concert: “Although our life is short, if we live together, help each other, and share with others, we will be able to say we’ve lived a beautiful and valuable life.” She called the attendees who came to help unfortunate neighbors around the world “people who are living a beautiful and worthy life,” and encouraged them, saying, “Your help will never be forgotten, and your love will be remembered as a heartwarming story in some others’ lives.” She gave the message of hope and comfort to the beneficiaries, “I hope that you will be relieved from the heavy burden of life today, and will make a leap forward for a new hope by making this concert a turning point in your lives. Please have more courage to live, and don’t forget that you have these good neighbors near you. Let us all cheer up!”
More and more people are suffering from all sorts of disasters, diseases, wars, and famine. In 2016, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees [UNHCR] reported that 65.3 million people were displaced around the world. Children cannot go to school, people have to leave their homes, and villages disappear; such things happen everywhere.
These global issues cannot be solved just by one person, one community, or one country. That is why the world is urged to to pay more attention to consideration, respect, and cooperation. Now, the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation makes efforts to help mankind with the love of a mother. Its work stirs up a sense of community in the global village, and brings forth consideration for others, respect for life, and practice of love.
