Cultural Olympiad are diverse cultures, entertainment, festivals 

and experiential activities that bring people from the host 

country and around the world through the Olympic values.

In that sense, this year's PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic 

Games is no exception in hosting a number of cultural 

activities & events so that atheletes and many tourists around 

the world can appreciate the beauty of Korea beyond just 

Gangwon Province as well as Olympic values.

Culture Olympic Theme performance 'Scent of Thousand's 

Years' is in the middle of the 2018 PyeongChang Cultural 

Olympiad. By the invitation of its planning agency 'Parang' 

as well as the 2018 PyeongChang Cultural Olympiad Secretariat, 

The Seoul Diplomatic Corops. visited Gangreung, one of the 

PyeongChang Winter Games Host cities in the Republic of 

Korea on Feb. 5(Monday) to see 'Scent of Thousand's Years' in addition to 

visiting Gangwon Science & Industry Promotion Agency, 

Gyeongpo beach Arts Festa 2018, Winter Olympics publicity 

pavilion and last but not least Ojukheon etc. in partnership with

Friendship Association, an affiliate organization of the NDNnews

Scent of Thousand Years Theme Performance which is being held as part of the PyeongChang Culture Olympics.

After their tour of almost three hours from Seoul, visiting diplomatic 

community dropped by Gangwon Science & Industry Promotion 

Agency as their first itinerary visit program to hear about its 

ocean bio industry plan etc., one of its ambitious plans to 

nurture the future industries while being greeted by its president 

Won Young-suk & dedicated staffs. By his welcoming remarks, Won said that 

enterpreneurs can realize their dreams here in Gangreung 

Science & Industry Promotion Agency & Gangreung city where 

is good to do business, adding GSIPA will do its utmost to 

nurture competitive promising enterprises than anywhere based 

on cutting-edge science technologies.

As capacity of visiting diplomatic community Dean, Myanmar 

Amb. H.E. Thura H Thet Oo Maung replied by his return 

remarks that first of all, we Seoul Diplomatic Corps. are very 

happy to be able to visit Gangreunn, one of the 2018 

PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games Host cities in the 

Republic of Korea in order to attend PyeongChang Culture 

Olympics. Besides hosting speed skating games, hockey, curling 

etc. as part of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics Games, 

we heard that your Host City Gangreung has an ambitious 

plans to nurture ocean bio industry etc., Maung added. (See the

In the afternoon, visiting diplomatic community dropped by 

Gyeongpo beach to appreciate many sculptures prepared 

alongside the Gyeongpo beach, that is, Arts Festa 2018 

Gangreung, which will be held as part of cultural Olympic events.

Since then, the publicity pavilion installed within Gangreung 

Green City Experience Center provided visiting diplomatic 

community including many general visitors with a glimpse 

about this upcoming PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games. 

Before going to Wonju University Gangreung campus to see 

"Scent of Thousand's Years" Theme performance, diplomatic 

community dropped by GangneungOjukheon Municipal Museum 

which is composed of Ojukheon and the museum.

Ojukheon is the building from early Joseon dynasty, which 

has unique Iick construction style as a house which has 

significant value in architecture. Also, Yulgok Yi I was born in 

Mongryongsil room and this room became more historic 

place. There are Moonseongsa, Sarangchae, Eojegak and Yulgok 

memorial hall along with Ojukheon.

The municipal museum archives, studies and exhibits data and 

artifacts on the Yeongdong region, and was established to 

success traditional culture and to contribute to social education 

and emotional improvement of the people. There is a folklore

museum exhibiting livelihood goods of Yeongdong region, a 

history and culture museum exhibiting artifacts excavated in 

Gangneung, and outdoor exhibition hall which restored stone 

sculptures and tomb of Yeongdong region.

As their last schedule, diplomatic community attended 'Scent 

of Thousand's Years' Theme Performance which will be 

performed during the Winter Olympic Games as part of the 

2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games at the Haeram 

Cultural Center, Wonju University Gangreung Campus.

Ukraine Amb. Olexander Horin who is interviewed by local media, praising highly of Theme performance 'Scent of Thousand Years'.

The motif of <Scent of Thousand's Years> is 'Dano Festival', 

which is on the list of intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. 

The story is about the peace of a thousand years that made 

by nature, human and God. In the background of beautiful 

and peaceful Gangwon-Province, it is telling of human and God with both the conflict 

and the recovery. <Scent of Thousand's Years> is not only just 

story about us who are living in the present, but is meaning 

Olympic spirit of peace and harmony.

programs with great expectations such as ‘Scent of a Thousand 

Years’, theme performance of the 2018 PyeongChang Culture
