Graduating from the least-developing country standing by 

2020, Lao PDR aims to 

enter into a middle-income country until 2030.

Such a fact was revealed by the speech from Lao Amb. 

Khamsouay Keodalavong in a diplomatic reception to mark its 

42th Anniversary of the Founding of Lao PDR, held in a hotel 

Seoul last Saturday evening.

With last year’s Laos ASEAN Chairmanship 2016 as a momentum which was 

held with a catchphrase, dubbed as “Turning Vision into Reality 

for a Dynamic ASEAN Community”, Laos played a leading role 

for ushering ASEAN international relations with Korea, the US, 

Japan, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India and last but not least 

the EU, according to Keodalavong.

On the other hand from 2018, Laos plans to accelerate attracting 

tourists from around the world by hosting a total of 18 official 

festivals such as Laos New Year Festival with the aim to attract 5 

million tourists next year. Keodalavong said that Laos expects for 

Korean tourists to visit his country with the number of 200,000 

peoples next year although Korean visitors remained at 173,000 this year.

He encouraged for Korean investors to invest in Laos vigorously 

including hydroelectric power generation etc., adding its economic 

development possibility is high in the years to come.

Oversea Laos Embassies host their national day reception 

every 5 years. In the case of this year, its 42th Anniversary 

reception of the Founding of Lao PDR was possible with the 

sponsorships from Booyoung Group, Donghwa Group and last 

but not least Korea-Laos Friendship Association etc., Keodalavong expressed 

appreciation. ASEAN envoys showed off in large numbers 

including Malaysia Amb. Dato' ROHANA binti Ramli, Myanmar 

Amb. Thura Thet Oo MAUNG, Vietnam Amb. NGUYEN VU TU, 

Brunei Amb. Dato Mohd Rosli SABTU, Singapore Amb. YIP Wei Kiat etc.
