“Special attention should be given to the exemplary interparliamentary relations”: Georgia envoy Berdzenishi
The Silver Jubilee to mark the 25th anniversary of diplomatic
ties between Korea & Georgia was held in the Millennium Seoul
Hilton last Friday evening.

Diplomatic relations with the Republic of Korea (ROK) were
established on December 14, 1992, according to the Embassy
of Georgia Seoul. Georgia Amb. Otar Berdzenishi assessed
through his welcome speech: “2017 has been significant year
for our countries while it marked 25th Anniversary since Establishment
of the Diplomatic Relations between Georgia and the Republic of Korea.”

In this quarter of century our countries established diplomatic
missions in the respective capitals, highest ranking visits has
been exchanged, and last but not least in this regard special
attention should be given to the exemplary interparliamentary
relations, Berdzenishi added. In such a context, chairwoman
You Seung-hee from the Georgia-Korea Friendship Group, National Assembly, was on hand with
her assemblyman colleague Lee Jae-jung to stress that now is the time for the relations of the two
countries to leap into a new stage buttressed by existing friendly
25 years since 1992.

Our governments have contributed to deepen and straighten
existing cooperation on the bilateral and multilateral levels over
the past few years, Georgia envoy said, adding Korean citizens enjoy visa-free travel to Georgia for 360 days. It worth mentioning that Professor Cho Ju-kwan from Yonsei University and Professor Mr. Hur Seung Chul
from Korea University made an important contribution to the
popularization of our culture by translating into Korean language
12th century Georgian epic poem of Shota Rustaveli "the Knight in
the Tiger's Skin", Berdzenishi said. Two separate books were
published in 2016 and 2017, according to the Embassy of Georgia Seoul.

Former Georgia Amb. Nikoloz Aphkazava who served from
March 2012 until 2017 and is now in Malaysia, also was very
diligent in promoting Georgia culture, wines for hosting year-end Georgia party, Georgian wine night and last but not least
Georgia Cultural events. Embassy of Georgia in the Republic of
Korea (with the residence in Seoul) was opened on August 16, 2012.
