Newlyarrived Georgia Amb. Otar Berdzenishvile presented his credentials to Acting 

President Hwang Gyo-an, Republic of Korea on last April 24th recently at Chungwadae(Blue House).

Following a successful Amb. duty of former Georgia Amb. Nicoloz Apkhazava, new 

Georgia Amb. Otar Berdzenishvili is expected to focus his Amb. faculty on increasing 

people-topeople contacts between the two countries, FTA negotiation between Korea & Georgia 

etc, among others.

In an informal gathering with local journalists held on May 2nd afternoon at the Embassy 

of Georgia, Berdzenishvili stressed first of all that Georgia is a heaven for investors, 

encouraging Korean investors' investment into Georgia. Actually as a bridge between 

Europe and Asia, the economy of Georgia is highly integrated with international markets, 

according to him.

Georgia provides customs duty-free access to ~ 900 million market (Provided by FTA's and DCFTA with EU). In terms of 

its location as well – Georgia is located in the Caucasus region and is a gateway between 

Europe and Asia.

Asked why invest in Georgia?, Amb. Berdzenishvili answered: "Country's impressive 

progress in improving business climate has been well documented in a number of 

international indices. Georgia is considered as a politically stable, corruption-free investment destination with low business costs".

With a range of Free Trade Agreements, Georgia has access to a 900 million market that 

is not subject to customs tax, including Turkey, CIS and EU countries. Berdzenishvili in 

particular emphasized corruption-free and transparent business environment of Georgia. So through anti-corruption legislation, effective law enforcement and free access to online registries the 

Georgian economy promotes transparency, reduces bureaucratic burden.

Last but not least, the Amb. said that there are many similarities between the two 

countries in terms of cultural similarities such as language, culture as same Asian nations 

etc. Before coming to Korea, Berdzenishvili was Ambassador of Georgia to the Federative 

Republic of Brazil including Non-Resident Ambassador to the Republics of Peru, Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador, Suriname, 

Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana and Representative to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
