Speaking to its about 80 members of the Amcham AGM which was held on Sep. 12, 2012 at the Marriott Hotel Seoul, Amb. Choi pointed out: “Always readjusting is necessary in the ROK-U.S. alliance because the status of the two countries, national power and economic power are continuously changing”. He stressed that he will persuade with regard to things which must be persuaded to the U.S. and will negotiate with regard to things to negotiate with the U.S. respectively while grasping and anticipating our interests and the interests of the U.S.
Amb. Choi came to Seoul to attend an annual Korea-U.S. Business Meeting between economic circles of two countries which will take place at the Grand Hyatt Seoul during two days on Sep. 13-14, 2012 under the joint auspices of the Amcham and the FKI (The Federation of Korean Industries).
In connection with the North Korea problem which was asked from the floor, Amb. Choi said flatly: “North Korea’s missile test can’t go unceasingly”, adding in the case of difficult country or weak states, their problems can be solved only after those countries are incorporated into an international community.
Addressing with a theme, “The paradigm of the times is changing from military power to trade”, Choi pointed out that North Korea is stuck on a dilemma, insisting on an old paradimn still. Amb. Choi urged North Korea to accept a new paradigm including trade and foreign investment, adding he is confident that from all quarters such as Washington, Beijing, Tokyo and Moscow, there will be hands to support North Korea if North Korea embraces a new paradigm.
